The Carte Blanche programme of 29 September 2013 told the stories of Grahamstown's 'water woes' that leave residents in both Grahamstown East (the townships) and Grahamstown West where the university is located, without water for prolonged periods.
Khulumani's Water for Dignity team in the municipality were featured as they pointed out the many water and sanitation-related issues affecting local township residents.
The team is promoting the participation of community members in community water forums that focus on community-driven solutions to a challenge that is growing especially in small towns and villages across the country.
In the Carte Blanche video, "Grahamstown Water", Leigh Bennie interviews among others the chairperson of the Water for Dignity project, Mr. Mbulelo Lepile.
Key targets of Khulumani Water for Dignity in Makana Municipality are to establish a system of community-owned and monitored water storage tanks in line with the campaign, One Street, One Tank and to ensure that every township school has one working toilet and a wash station for hand washing.
