In the closing session of the Inaugural Restitution Conference, held in the Cape of Good Hope Castle on 9 and 10 November 2016, Khulumani Support Group was awarded one of three Restitution Awards for "the groundbreaking process facilitated by Khulumani Support Group between the people of Worcester and Stephanus Coetzee."
The citation reads, "Together, through their journey, they have engaged with the tragedy of the 1996 Worcester bombing. This has allowed for broader acknowledgment of the abuse of our Apartheid past, accountability, truth telling, sincere remorse, unconditional apology, clearly defined extent of forgiveness and ultimately, has facilitated the commitment to restitution as a community. Together they have opened the path and define another model of restitution for our country. The well-known author, Alexandra Fuller, in her article “Mandela’s Children”, provides an intimate account of this restitution journey travelled by people like Tshepho Madlingozi of Khulumani Support Group, Olga Macingwane as one of the victims of Worcester Bombing and Stephanus Coetzee as an offender."
