Tutu responds to TRC corpses debacle

Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) chairperson Archbishop Desmond Tutu apologised for the misidentification of bodies exhumed and returned to families during investigations of apartheid-era atrocities.

Abstracts from article:

  1. "My heart goes out, especially to the families of those whose bodies were exhumed, to whom we apologise unreservedly."

  2. "I know that my colleagues in the commission are, almost all of them, conscientious and hard-working people of integrity, who are as deeply distressed about the situation as anyone - but there will be weaknesses in even the strongest teams.

  3. "As a chairperson of the commission, I must take the responsibility of this distressing state of affairs," said Tutu.

  4. Ntombi Mosikare, co-ordinator of the Khulumani Support Group, said that no one individual should shoulder the blame and the whole TRC should take responsibility.
