The award is in recognition of the role played by Khulumani in organising the journey of four survivors of the Christmas Eve 1996 Worcester bombing and in facilitating the encounter between the offender, Mr Stefaans Coetzee and four of his victims.

This meeting has served as a catalyst of a process of the people of Worcester exploring what it takes for reconciliation to be achieved.

Thank you for a process that is deepening ‘cultural warmth’ amongst and between residents of the still widely dispersed residential areas in the town, a town that has been called the ‘disability capital’ of South Africa because of the organisations based in Worcester that provide training and outreach to people living with disabilities.

As people sat around tables to share a meal together, they spoke of what each person had done to contribute to ‘God’s dream for Worcester’ in the year since the first peace table was held in 2011.

Thank you for the commitment shown by everyone to sustaining and deepening the processes of healing and reconciling amongst the people of Worcester.
